From February 25 to March 5, we had the pleasure of hosting The Gioconda Project at the gallery. The project is a not-for-profit experiment in sharing contemporary art through one of the most famous works of art in history - La Gioconda (better known as the Mona Lisa). The painting was reinterpreted by 181 artists from 51 different countries who each presented creative and wonderfully unique pieces.
The exhibition was very popular and attracted a wide range of visitors and attention. Many artists from countries like Portugal travelled to see their work displayed. The feedback was great - comments included: 'Portrayed a very interesting insight into the minds of artists from around the world!'. Another person said 'the exhibition was fascinating - I never knew how many amazing pieces could come from just one painting!'. (View more feedback.) We're pleased to have been the first gallery in the UK to showcase the Gioconda Project and hope to see it grow even more successful worldwide.
We'd like to thank everyone involved in making this exhibition one of our most unique and sought-after yet.
